I was raised in a small town in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, where my father served as the high school principal. He was the principal for both my older brother and me, and by the time he retired after more than 25 years, he had impacted the lives of literally thousands of young people in our area. My mother was a dedicated teacher, and my grandfather was a local elected official. Growing up in this environment made anonymity impossible but also instilled in me strong values of honesty, integrity, and a deep love for family and nature.
With over 20 years of experience in higher education, degrees from three different institutions, and recognition in a Library of Congress publication for my contributions, I am now eager to share my passion for coaching with a wider audience. Those I have worked with in the past have described my style with phrases like:
- “John’s approach is very caring and kind.”
- “John has a heart and a desire to encourage others.”
As your Career Ownership Coach®, I strive to provide you with a safe space to explore possibilities—some you may have considered and others you may not (and that’s the beauty of a safe space!).
In my leisure time, my wife and I, now embracing our newfound status as “empty nesters,” immerse ourselves in outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, fat biking, and cross-country skiing. We also cherish time spent with our two adult children, who bring us immense pride.
Join me in exploring the possibilities of growth and discovery!
